Premature panic

Well, after a meeting with our floor manager on Wednesday the 18th I found out I will not be given my walking papers from the company, but I will probably have to switch departments. The good news (I guess) is I will still have a job. There is a very slight chance our department will be reduced to a skeleton crew, and the senior advisors will remain, but I'm not holding my breath. I have received news my friend who has been in Mexico for the past 7 months teaching is coming home, and I sure look forward to seeing her. I also received news my other friend who has decided to join the Peace Corps and help teach English in the Ukraine for almost three years is doing fine, and was fortunate enough to settle in with a very nice sponsor family. I truly hope all works out well for her. I had a pleasant surprise today, my son dropped-by for dinner, and brought me some moose meat, and deer meat. I have never tried either before, but I am looking forward to cooking it. I searched the internet for recipes, and will try making a moose stew (wish me luck!)

Friday the 13th

Well it's been called the most unlucky day of the year Friday the 13th, and so far it's proving to be exactly that. The weather outside today is as windy as I've seen it in a long time, and it has knocked out the power here for about 2 hours. The rain is coming down in buckets, and had just turned to hail, but nothing to big. Lots of tree branches down, and of course a lot of traffic lights are out making driving around town very stressful. On top of that I've just received a phone message from one of my fellow workers that we have been given notice that we are loosing our jobs by the new year (Merry Christmas) I'm usually not a superstitious guy at all, but sometimes things like this make you wonder.

We all need comforting

We all need a little comforting now and then, and we all find it different ways. This photo shows the things that bring me comfort when I just want to be alone, and take time for myself. A glass of red wine, my pipe, my warm slippers, and a good book sometimes read by candle light. I love to read biographies about musicians, and I love the smell of pipe tobacco. My slippers are flannel lined and keep me very warm on those cold Canadian nights. Simple things, but it works for me.

Fatherly Advise

I hope all the answers to life that you need
You will find in time to help you succeed
Try not to cut corners, or race through to the end
Make time for family, and be a good friend
Try to help out where ever you can
Always be willing to lend a hand
Be true to yourself, and to those whom you love
Show off your manners your a cut above
Bring laughter to those who don't laugh a lot
You will be fondly remembered deep in their hearts
So put on a brave face, and lead with a smile
Be proud of your efforts they have all been worth while.

My trustee steed

As I mentioned in my last post I like to ride my bike to the lake, so I thought I would share a picture of it with you. It's a 21 speed mountain bike made by Raleigh at a cost just over $400.00 Canadian. It's not the top of the line, but it sure gets me where I want to go, and up hill is a breeze in 1st gear. I usually pack a snack of crackers, cheese, olives, and a little red wine into a backpack and I'm off to the lake on my trustee steed. I wish it was summer all year round.

My favorite hangout

This is Lakeview Park. I spend a lot of time here enjoying hot summer days. I like to ride my bicycle here because there is a beautiful bicycle path that I can take all the way from my home. I usually avoid going on weekends because it is just to busy, but if I go on the week days then I can ride along the path without worrying about people traffic. There's a large playground for the kids, and some historic buildings that you can tour. They have a small snack bar for ice cream, hot dogs, or fries. They must make good fries because once you start eating them the seagulls will drop by and ask you to share! I have found nowhere else that relieves my daily stresses like this place.

My favorite time of the year

This is the reason why this is my favorite time of the year. Autumn colors are perfect, and the air quality is great. I took some photos of the country side about one hour north of where I live. I have only posted two of my pics just for space reasons. The one of the tracks is what I use for my backdrop on my PC. The temperature that day was a perfect 64 degrees (f) and lots of sunshine. I appreciate the heat of summer, but it's the colors of autumn I love.

My pride and joy

Here's a picture of my drums. I have owned this set since I was 12 years olds. My parents bought them for me as a Christmas gift, and I've been playing them ever since. Although, my days playing in bands has seemed to diminish(getting to old) I still find time now and then to do a little practicing. For any of you drumming buffs they're Premiers with mahogany shells.

A lesson learned

I just created a site here, and before I knew it I forgot my password, so here's my second attempt. Hello all, I look forward to sharing thoughts and experiences here, and I'll try to keep it colorful.
